EXAMS!!!
i have seven huge ones all in one year!!
-SHSAT (specialized high school admissions test)
sorry, but this one will take too long to explain.
-ELA (english language arts) State Exams
-Math State Exams
-Science State Exams
-Social Studies State Exams
-Science Regents
-Foreign Language Regents
regents is basically an exam, just a different name. every year we only have the math and ela state exams. they're graded from a 1-4. 1 being terrible and 4 perfect. any lower than a 3 you wont be in honors class next year. any lower than a 2 you wont pass the grade. only students in honors class take the Regents test. at least i dont have to take the math regents. in seventh grade, your seperated into three different math classes. Math A (9th grade lvl math taken in 7th and 8th grade) Math A 2 (same as the other one but for people who are a little slower). and regular grade math (my class, im not a numbers person). only people in math a take the the math regents. i will eventually take it, but in 9th grade.
how do they expect us to do all of this along with regular school work?! btw, all of it is counted toward your grade so if you fail any of it, you dont go to high school.
whats a comprehensive school?
we dont have a social class, i think everyone would hate it if we did though. unless you count social studies. but thats mostly just history but eventually we'll get to the present and soon enough the future. we study religon and stuff in that class. oh, i thought you guys learned just one religion there. my cousins live in switzerland and they have to learn about christianity and the bible and stuff. its mandatory. im hindu. unlike other hindu's im not CRAZY religious. i know the basics of it and i know what im doing when i got to the temple. but thats pretty much it. and of course we celebrate the holidays which i love =]
most high schools have drivers ed. but of course you have to pay for them. but driving isnt a huge thing here in new york. its hard to find parking, always traffic and gases prices are reallllyy high lately. plus you can get to basically every where through public transportation.
about the school day thing...hmmm, its different everywhere. we have 8hours of school, 8 periods, 45 min. per period. i have lunch fifth period. some places have different schedules, one where you start school earlier and leave earlier. with also an option of starting later and leaving later. thats pretty much it. then of course after school activities, if any.
lol, my name is shrima =] pronunciation: SHREE-MA
is your name really just PP?
umm, if your talking about classes, then yes. lets see if i can explain this right... there is usually a top class/honors class/SP class. all means the same thing. the people who are in it are the ones that did well in the previous year. your basically in the same classes as them (english, math..) unless your in a more advanced on e or a less advanced one. the class are usually labeled by numbers, mine being 811. its differnt in every school. and this is just jr. high/middle school. im in the 8th grade.
hmm, i like: HONEY NUT CHEERIOS, KIX, FROSTED FLAKES, SPECIAL K, TRIX, COCOA PEBBLES, LUCKY CHARMS, EGGO WAFFLE CEREAL...thsoe are just my favorites, but i'll eat just about anything.
people always ask me the genre of what i like, books, movies, music. its difficult for me cuz i like everything. for example, certain rap songs, pop, hip hop, r & b, rock, country and even classical. what attracts me is good meaningful words, up beat rhythm, and a smooth flow.
first day back was fine. i only and math and english though. but i found out something terrible which i will talk to you about in next comment.
wow, what is an ocarnia? i play a violin, im not perfect and its definitely not my favorite.
what the hell is a tube?? you say mates =]
facebook is most common around high school and college. anywhere lower is mostly myspace. yea, i have a hi5, too. not too common here unless your south asian, as am i. but its considered stupid around these parts. i'll add you on bebo, but i would like to remind you that i havent been on it in months and i dont really plan to, too much going on. =[ stupid school.
yes, it helped =]
when does your school start? mine starts tomorrow.
i thought that comment was too long, so i started another one. here are my questions:
-do stuff get released earlier in england than they do here?
-do you play an instrument?
-how do most people there get to school
-what is that nearby store that everyone knows of and goes to. (like a store to get basically everything, except maybe grocery's) here we have target and walgreens (many others but those are probably the most common).
-what clothing stores do you shop at?
-you have a bebo?! my freind made me make one. but i dont go on it. is that what they use there? here we use myspace and facebook mostly.
people say dude here. of course.
ok well the basic classes are: math, english, science, social studies , physical education, foregin language, and an elective (band, orchestra, drama). in elementary and middle school, its just the basics. but then you can take different kinds of math (trig, pre-calc, calc, geometry, etc.) in high school, you can take ap courses (advanced placement courses). such as AP Calc (Calculus).then there is different kinds of science. and most of the times different kinds of english (whole classes devoted to creative writing and reports and such). social stuides is basically history, but an overall version. but then in high school you can select us history, world history and stuff. most school usually have tech. classes, but they're not usually mandatory. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION???!! you have to take that. wow. do you go to private school? cuz we're not even allowed to discuss religion in our school (thinks it'll cause discrimination and stuff).art is an elective, most of the time. whats cross? but it really depends which school you go to, which level of education, what type of education, and which state. cuz things could be totally different at a private school in california.
bombard me with questions? that was only two, come on, you can do better than that.
haha, yea, there are a couple of stuff i get from books too.
wait.. there are no malls there? anyway, malls do have food courts. i havent seen one with bowling alleys, but you have pretty much the right idea. yea, like i can ask you anything that i think is fictional, which is really cool. for example, i now know that you guys actually wicked. hehe, nothing wrong with it its just that no one here says it and i only here it in books.
ask away about stuff in america if you have questions =]
oh, nice. but your sick. sorry =[
a mall is a place with shops and food places.
blue water has everything?! wow, i have to go there whenever i get a chance to. we dont normally travel to states to shop. thats why i thought it was so weird. get well soon =]
oohh, you too, have fun.
wow, weather here is pretty normal. i hear we're supposed to see mars today? i dont know.
yea, rhode island, adventure. its funny cuz its so small so we're like, lets go shopping! and we had to go to another state to get where we wanted. apparently its not that uncommon here going in and out of states.
school starts on the fourth for me, which shockingly is pretty early. it normally starts on the thriteenth or something like that..idk. anyway, try to make the best out of your crappy weather. =]
summers fine. im back in new york. schools bout to start. im going to rhode island on monday to drop of my sis at brown university.
